15 th CAN InfoTech 2009, the largest Information Technology (IT) fair in the country was completed on January 19, 2009 with grand success. The opening ceremony of the mega event was inaugurated by Honorable Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal "Prachanda" on January the 14th. Speaking at the opening ceremony, the prime minister pledged to support the IT sector. He added that the government would help to develop IT as it was indispensable for economic development.
A history has been created by CAN having the most successful mega event until now. Since the year 2000 until last year, CAN Infotech was being organized at BICC, but this year for the first time, the mega event was organized at Bhrikuti mandap Exhibition hall. About four lakh sixtythree thousand six hundred and twenty (4,63,620) visitors came to see CAN Infotech 2009 where there were altogether two hundred twentythree stalls of one hundred fifteen companies.
On the second & third day of the event, ICT conference 2009 was organized at City Hall, Exhibition Road with the theme of "ICT formulation for new Nepal". The conference conducted presentations on infrastructure development of information technology and communication, e-commerce, bio-informatics, leadership in electronic work and e-governance.
